Upcoming at Strathmore

British acting royalty, Afrobeat and a cup of tea.

Tonight, at the Music Center, Lorin Maazel will conduct the Castleton Festival Orchestra in a program of music devoted to Shakespeare. They will perform excerpts from Shakespeare-inspired works by Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn and Prokofiev. Meanwhile, actors Helen Mirren and Jeremy Irons will perform spoken excerpts from A Midsummer Night's Dream. The show starts at 8 p.m., and tickets in the orchestra section are still available.

July 5 and 6: Afternoon Tea

The Shapiro Music Room will host flautist Susan Bour and guitarist Phil Bour, who will play as attendees enjoy a meal and Strathmore Blend Tea. Tickets are $21, and the tea starts at 1 p.m. both days.

July 6: Chopteeth Afrofunk Big Band

July 7: Backyard Theater: Sin Miedo

This installment of Strathmore's Backyard Theater for Children features Latin dance band Sin Miedo performing outdoors for parents and kids alike. Tickets are $8, and the band will play at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
