Upcoming at Strathmore

Dancers from CityDance Center at Strathmore demonstrate their techniques, artistry and talent in this showcase performance. The Dreaming Tree is an original story created from various Amazon rain forest legends, incorporating a variety of genres: ballet, modern, jazz, Asian/Afro-fusion and hip-hop. A wide variety of music, from Debussy to Coldplay and Michael Jackson is included. Tickets are $15; $5 for kids ages 2 and under, but must be purchased in person at the Strathmore Ticket Office.

June 18: CityDance Conservatory Concert 2011: Seeing with Our Hearts, 7:30 p.m., the Music Center at Strathmore.

The talented young dancers of CityDance Conservatory present an evening of dance based on the theme "Seeing with our Hearts." Music selections range from Heitor Villa-Lobos to Bette Midler and Zoe Keating. The performance highlights contemporary, classical and fusion repertory from the season, and features choreographers from the Conservatory faculty. Special guest appearances include Marcelo Martinez of Carolina Ballet and young musicians of the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras (MCYO). Tickets are $15; $5 for kids ages 2 and under, but must be purchased in person at the Strathmore Ticket Office.

Relax and sip handcrafted tea while enjoying sounds of local musicians playing soothing music at  the Mansion. Reservations are being accepted for the 1 p.m. tea time both days. June 21, the musical guest is Fran Hraster on piano; June 22 features Celtic harpist Jo Morrison. Call 301-581-5108 to reserve a spot. Tickets are $21.

June 22: Summer Outdoor Concert Series: LaBrassBanda, 7 p.m., Strathmore Mansion (on the lawn).

Strathmore launches its eight-week Summer Concert Series with the five musicians of "LaBrassBanda" from Southern Germany, who bring together trumpet, tuba and trombone "to recreate everything from ska to oom-pah-pah," with Mexican mariachi, Tyrolese polka and more in the mix. Free admission; bring a low beach chair or blanket to sit on. Parking is available in the Metro garage for $4.75 (SmartTrip or credit card), or at the Mansion lot on a space-available basis until 7 p.m. Performance presented in partnership with the Embassy of Germany.
