The Book Gets Its Day in Kensington

'Day of the Book' draws reading lovers to downtown Kensington.

Author readings, colorful tents and balloons, oven-fired pizza, cupcakes and a devotion to the creative world of reading and books drew hundreds to historic Old Town Kensington Sunday for the Day of the Book festival.

More than 100 local authors, poets, publishers, literary groups and community organizations lined Howard Avenue for three blocks.

Live music featured The Nighthawks and Atomic Swing Club, and there were poetry recitations, chess playing, rare books, art sales and crafts exhibits, as well as kids' events and activities.
