2. SILVER JAZZ FESTIVAL HEADLINING SERGIO MENDES

Where/When: Enjoy jazz on Veterans Plaza (near the Majestic Theater) in downtown Silver Spring on Saturday, Sept. 8, between 4:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.

Why go: This year’s concert also will feature Marcus Johnson, Bruce Swaim Quartet, and Elliot Levine.

Pricing: Free for all to join.

Where/When: Waverly Street Gallery located at 4600 East West Hwy in Bethesda on Saturday, Sept. 8, between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Why go: Waverly Street Gallery debuts David Yano's Stroke of Genius for the 2012 fall season. Yano will talk about the role art has played in his recovery from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD),  Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Stroke.

Where/When: Head Chocolatier Crisoire Reid teaches you secrets of the trade on Friday, Sept. 7, from 6 p.m to 8:30 p.m. at Spagnvola, located at 360 Main St, Gaithersburg, MD.

Why go: You ever wonder how chocolate is created to give you that sweet little treat that melts in your mouth? Well, this is your chance to discover the secret.

Where/When: Food, Wine & Co. located at 7272 Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda on Thursday and Friday from 4 to 6:30 p.m.

Why go: This Bethesda eatery hosts a happy hour with delicious bar favorites from Chef Michael Harr.

Pricing: Tater tots are $1, $4 draft and bottled beers, $6 red and white wines, and cocktails $6 to $7.
