The Beatles Come to Kensington!

This month Sir Paul McCartney celebrates his 70th birthday. And Kensington Row Bookshop will celebrate the occasion by presenting Kensington author Martin Goldsmith reading from and signing copies of his book "The Beatles Come to America" on Saturday, June 16, from 12:00 noon until 2:00 PM. Mr Goldsmith will be set up outside in front of the shop and we will have music!

The book recreates the pandemonium that surrounded the Beatles' first visit to America in February, 1964, bringing much needed joy to a country still reeling from the assassination of President Kennedy less than three months before. Goldsmith explains how four lads from Liverpool came together to create a sound and style that would win America's heart. From the roots of Paul and John's songwriting partnership and the band's first Merseyside appearances to their grueling Hamburg apprenticeship and their climb to the top of the British charts, to their first-ever concert in the US -- which took place in the old Uline Arena in Washington, DC -- Goldsmith brings to life the hardships, hard work, and joy that made the Beatles' music without parallel in the 20th Century.

A splendid time is guaranteed for all.
