Concert by Carmina, "Fairest Isle"

Carmina “Fairest Isle” Featuring Vera Kochanowksy, harpsichord April 22, 2012 - 4:00 PM.  Concerts at Cedar Lane is pleased to present Carmina, a Washington, DC based chamber choir devoted to exploring the diverse musical styles of the Middle Ages through the Baroque. Now in its fourteenth season the ensemble has appeared at the National Gallery of Art, the National Cathedral, and the German Embassy, and has collaborated with the local early music groups Armonia Nova and the Washington Kantorei. Since 2004 Carmina has presented concerts as part of the Washington Early Music Festival.

England, always a bit removed from the musical fashions and trends of the European continent, has produced a number of composers of impressive skill and unique influence. In its program Carmina will focus on the formidable talents of Henry Purcell, including his moving
Funeral Sentences, and the music of William Byrd and other notable early English composers.
