Whiz Kid: Jennifer Jolles

This week's Whiz Kid is an Einstein Student who knows how to argue.

Every week, Kensington Patch will feature a local kid who has done something remarkable, whether at school, church or in the neighborhood. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens, and we will select one each week as the Kensington Patch Whiz Kid. This week's Whiz Kid is a debate champion from Albert Einstein High School.

  • Whiz Kid Jenny Jolles, Senior
  • Accomplishment: Jolles won the Montgomery County debate championship (breaking Walter Johnson's seven-year winning streak).
  • Key to Awesomeness: After hours of google-ing and spending countless time in the library, Jolles rose to the top of 32 debaters who competed in the Montgomery County Debate Championship. Jolles said that four students from Einstein's debate team made the top 32, which is the best showing for Einstein since the inception of the school's team. While Walter Johnson High School has won the championship for the past seven years, Jolles said she felt honored to go against the top seeded debater from the school, and couldn't have done it without the support and help of her family, friends, coaches and teammates. Now that the two-day competition has passed, Jolles can focus on her performance in the pit for the school musical, "Hairspray." And she anxiously awaits the arrival of April 1, when she will hear from her No. 1 choice university, Vanderbilt, where she hopes to pursue a degree in pre-law and economics.
