The Montgomery County Volunteer Center is seeking donations to help create Thanksgiving baskets for county residents in need.
Items sought include:
- Cranberry sauce, stuffing mix, low-sodium canned beans, yams, vegetables or collard greens and low-sodium gravy.
- Supermarket gift cards ($20 preferred) so families can purchase perishable items for their holiday meal.
- New reusable grocery bags.
Donations will be accepted at A Wider Circle, located at 9159 Brookeville Rd. in Silver Spring, Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. between Nov. 1 and 20, 2012.
Catholic Charities of DC is looking to help feed low-income Montgomery County residents this Thanksgiving. You can help with food donations in one of two ways:
- Purchase the “SHARE” Turkey package for $28, which includes a turkey and all the trimmings, or
- Create your own package containing a frozen turkey, a box of mashed potatoes, a can of sweet potatoes, a box of stuffing, a can of cranberry sauce, two cans of green beans, two cans of corn and two cans of fruit.
Donations will be taken at the Catholic Charities location in Silver Spring at 12247 Georgia Ave. They are also looking for volunteers to assist with picking up and distributing holiday packages, contact them at 301-942-1790 for more information.
The YMCA of Metropolitan Washington is sponsoring a holiday food drive benefiting the Children’s Inn at NIH. Donated food will help to fill the “Help Yourself” pantry in each kitchen in the residences where families of critically ill children live while their child receives care. The Children’s Inn’s list of immediate needs include:
- Canned fish/meats such as tuna, salmon and chicken.
- Canned/individually packaged fruit and applesauce.
- Regular and/or long-grained white rice.
- Ready-made meals like Easy Mac, Lipton noodles, etc.
Donations will be accepted at the Bethesda YMCA from Nov. 1 to Dec. 14, Monday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., Saturdays from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
