Silver Spring Zombie Night Set for Oct. 27, Replacing Zombie Walk

Activities may include a double scary movie feature at AFI Silver, a 5K obstacle course and a performance at The Fillmore.

What better way to feel really alive than to consort with the undead for a night?

Silver Spring's Zombie Night, an event that will replace the annual Zombie Walk, is planned for Saturday, Oct. 27, at 8 p.m., according to the event's website.

Organizers wrote that logistics and red tape--insurance policies, planned sidewalk repair and cost--kept the traditonal walk from happening.

"But you've been strong and patient. You've planned your costumes and consumed gray matter. And you've made this one of the great annual events in Silver Spring," reads the event website.

"We don't want to let that go. To that end, we are working with local organizations, including AFI Silver Theatre, the Silver Spring Urban District, The Fillmore and a variety of local establishments to create ZOMBIE NIGHT in Silver Spring," the site continues.

Details are still being hammered out, but organizers have planned a double feature at AFI Silver (Robert Rodriguez's Grindhouse at 9:45 p.m. and British zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead at 11:45 p.m.) and a concert by Yonder Mountain String Band at The Fillmore.

If you're up for a drive, there's also the Run for Your Lives zombie 5K obstacle course in Darlington, MD. Two different races are planned, and the one on Oct. 28 is not yet full, according to the race's website
