This week's Patch Picks chooses five local non-profits that are making a difference in the community.
PEP is a local organization that offers support to parents throughout Montgomery County, northwest Washington, D.C. and northern Virginia. The group offers parenting workshops on various topics including how to be an encouraging parent, managing anger, setting limits and more.
Fermata Eclectic: This is aiming to provide venues for local musicans and artist. The groups first fundraiser event was a , which showcased a 13-year-old classical guitarist—Jonathan Maranville—who falls under Fermata Eclectic's Soirée for Young Musicians section.
This non-profit organization provides hot and cold meals to home-bound people in the community with the help of volunteers. Volunteers prepare and package food and make home deliveries so "no senior goes hungry."

Women, children and families are provided with economic and social rehabilitation at this local non-profit organization. Crossway Community is made up of the Family Leadership School, Montessori Program and Intergenerational Learning Center, which helps families to reshape their lives and become involved in their community.
This Silver Spring-based non-profit that provides help for those suffering from homelessness, poverty or substance abuse. A Wider Circle furnishes homes with beds, dressers, tables and more through donations. Since 2002, the organization has furnished close to 8,000 homes.
