Whiz Kid: Newport Mill MS Girls Basketball Team

The girls of Newport Mill Middle School have made history for their school.

Every week, Kensington Patch will feature a local kid who has done something remarkable, whether at school, church or in the neighborhood. We want to hear about these amazing children and teens, and we will select one each week as the Kensington Patch Whiz Kid. This week's Whiz Kid is the Newport Mill girls basketball team.

  • Newport Mill Middle School Girls Basketball Team
  • Accomplishment: The girls made history by having the longest winning streak.
  • Key to Awesomeness: The girls are on the verge on going undefeated this season for the first time ever as they approach their last game of the season. This week the team headed to E. Brooke Lee Middle School to make middle school history. Jermaine Howell, the school's athletic director said the team has a very special group of 8th grade girls and a 5 foot 1 inch sensation in Daisa Harris, who is averaged close to 28 points per game. "I truly believe that this girls team is playing [the] best basketball in this area," Howell said.
