White Flint Borders Slated to Close

Borders Books and Music filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization.

This morning, Borders Books and Music filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization, which means that many locations—including Kensington—will close.

"Borders has identified certain underperforming stores — equivalent to approximately 30 percent of the company’s national store network — that are expected to close in the next several weeks," according to a press release detailing future plans for the store.

The bankruptcy will help with Borders business strategy to reposition itself
successfully for the long term, according to the release.

With the closure of the book store, which is located on the second and third floor of White Flint Mall, the nearest Borders will be located on Fenton Street in Silver Spring.

Kensington Patch will continue to follow this story as more information is released.

Used to work here and the manager was a complete witch. Still feel sad! I liked my fellow cashiers. The booksellers and management were snotty. Barnes and Noble is a much better place to work - Borders is a very punitive work environment, very militaristic in its view of employees, and very hierarchical. Maybe you wouldn't have closed if you treated your employees better, babes?
