Sandy Leaves Wheaton Businesses Intact
Small businesses in Wheaton's downtown area did not experience crippling power outages like the ones in July after the derecho.

The power flickered twice in The Little Bitts Shop on Triangle Lane as super-storm Sandy passed through Monday, but the electricity never cut out completely.
"We really dodged a big bullet," said Ann Schilke, who owns the cake-decorating supplies shop in Wheaton with her husband, Bob.
Other small businesses in Wheaton told similar stories. Just a few doors down, Filippo Leo of Marchone's Italian Deli said his store made it through the storm without any problems.
On the eastern side of Georgia Avenue, The Limerick Pub, which has a back-up generator, stayed open for part of the day Monday before the worst of Hurricane Sandy hit the area.
"Just watching the weather forecast, we could sense that it would be a near miss," said Tom Stanton, the pub's co-owner.
The restaurant reopened Tuesday morning. "Today just feels like a cold, rainy day, with a Saturday feel to it," Stanton said.
Not all businesses in Wheaton reopened Tuesday, however. Wheaton Studio of Dance remained closed, and Panera in Westfield Wheaton stayed dark into Tuesday afternoon.
