More than 1,000 people turned out to Strathmore last night for Ukefest, at once a celebration of the stringed instrument and an attempt to set a world record.

According to Strathmore's count, 944 people strummed their ukes in unison, which is nearly 100 more than the previous world-record-holders. Cathy Fink, one of the event's organizers and performers, said they'll need to wait for word from the Guinness Book of World Records before the feat is official.

Stayed tuned to Kensington Patch, as we'll be posting a video of the strum-along later today.
