Community Leaders To Honor Bethesda Olympians
Ledecky, Parsons and Zetlin to be celebrated Aug. 24.
Bethesda’s three hometown Olympians will be celebrated during a ceremony planned for Aug. 24.
Kayaker Scott Parsons, rhythmic gymnast Julie Zetlin and swimmer Katie Ledecky—the 15-year-old who stunned the world with her gold-medal finish in the women’s 800m freestyle—are set to be honored.
Community groups and leaders including U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen (D), Montgomery County Council President Roger Berliner (D-Dist. 1), the Greater Bethesda-Chevy Chase Chamber of Commerce, the Bethesda Urban Partnership, the Bethesda-Chevy Chase Regional Services Center and Brookfield Properties will participate.
Ledecky, a rising sophomore at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, was the yongest member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team. Zetlin was the only American to compete in her sport in London, and Parsons marked a third Olympic run this year after participating in the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.
The ceremony is planned for 5:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at Bethesda Metro Center, followed by a free outdoor dance concert.
